Fingers crossed in the next few weeks…
In Febuary the rumours are very strong for Nikon to finally announce the D800 and hopefully Canon to announce the 5D Mkii replacement shortly after.
It is an exciting time to think about purchasing a full frame digital camera, with new bodies coming out and a reduction in price of the current and second hand Nikon D700 and Canon 5D mkii cameras.

2012 promises to be a fine year for new and second hand cameras.
We can look forward to:

Canon 5D Mkiii To be announced 1st week of March
New Fullframe Rangefinder:
Leica M10?
As well as all these exciting new camera each with their own strengths and weakness, we can also look forward to a drop in the price of second hand quality cameras. And remember it is never too late to try out Analog film photography to with great cameras of the past, that can still produce stunning photos.
The two cameras I am personally excited about it the Canon 5D Mkii replacement and the FujiFilm X Pro 1.

James Nachtwey’s searing photos of war

James Nachtwey is one of my all time favourite documentary photographers.
Over the past few decades James has risked his life to tell the truth about war, the poor and famine. How he kept his nerve and captured such photos is the sign of a true master. His work may not be to everyone’s taste, but his message should be.

I have been hoping for some time now, to see the DVD “War Photographer”, which Christian Frei document’s James Nachtwey in the front line doing what he does best. I have not the full film, as it is a USA Region 1 DVD, and I live in the UK where we use region 2. Here is a link to the trailer:

New Canon Pro body announced!

The Canon 1DX will be be among us by March 2012.
It’s main features are:
18 MP Fullframe CMOS Sensor
61 point focus system
Dual DIGIC 5 processors
12fps for RAW shots, 14fps for JPEG
ISO 50 – 51,200
While this be Canon’s new flagship Camera, it will be interesting to see what filters down to the rest of the Canon line, especially the Canon 5D MKii and 7D replacements.

It looks like October will be the month. 🙂
The very strong rumours suggest Nikon will be announcing the D800 and Canon announcing a new body for the 1D series in October.
