Scott Stanger Photo shoot

October 7, 2017 § 2 Comments

I had the pleasure in doing a photo shoot with Scott Stanger, whom travelled all the way from New York to visit Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh. During his visit to Glasgow we got together for a photo shoot at some of Glasgow’s unique backdrop’s.

Below are just some of the photos from our shoot.

A big thank you to Yemi King for being my amazing lighting assistant .

Scott’s amazing sense of classic/vintage style (see his instagram) allow me to experiment in different picture styles. Such as colour, black and white and Sepia. I love the fact Scott Stanger suits them all.

Scotway House / Henderson Shipyard

May 21, 2016 § 2 Comments

Scotway House By Zeno Watson-4686

Built in 1885 Scotway house in Glasgow, was originally the drawing offices of DW Henderson Shipbuilder’s.

On the 20th May 2016 it was set on fire. This breaks my heart to see yet another listed building in Glasgow being set on fire deliberately.

I was fortunate that back in 2010 the back door was open. and I went inside to document this historical gem of building, as I knew one say it would be consumed in flames in the future, as many a listed building in Glasgow that are left to rot, always do.

Some of the Iron work that had been stripped out from the internal stairway

The stunning ground floor wood and glass interior.

The dookits up in the Attic/loft

A beautiful old can of McEwan’s Export. I never took anything from inside this building, but left it as is, for the next explorer to enjoy.

I actually sat on the roof for a bit, embracing the Glasgow Clydeside skyline.Scotway House By Zeno Watson-4796Scotway House By Zeno Watson-4788

Up in the attic / loft there were superb wee paper cut outs glued to the walls, of a golden age that had past.

The sadness of anything metal, or of value had been stripped. You can see the detail of one of the Iron bannisters at the top of the page.

Scotway House By Zeno Watson-4739Scotway House By Zeno Watson-4723

Despite the French styled building, designed by Bruce and Hay Architects being is awful condition even back in 2010. The light in some parts was gorgeous, and absent in other parts.

I hope this building’s shell is rescued, but i fear it was be flattened soon.

Edit:

It has been more or less demolished now…

The Ascent

April 3, 2016 § Leave a comment

I was very fortunate to photograph Jim Griffith and Jolade Olusanya’s ascent up Ben Lomond, in Scotland.

BenLomondZW By Zeno Watson-6343

Jolade who is also photographer and film-maker from London, had never been up a Scottish mountain before. I decided to focus on Jolade and document his experience

BenLomondZW By Zeno Watson-6352

Jolade, who lives in London was use to the flat level, ultra busy environment of the big city. So to escape to fresh open air of the Scottish Highlands was something his mind, body and soul embraced.

BenLomondZW By Zeno Watson-6366

The higher we climbed the views just got better and the sense of scale became more apparent and respected.

Ben Lomond-6394The more Jolade climbed the colder it became, the visibility drastically being reduced. The air thick in fine water droplets. This is was us walking through the clouds but did not know it, as we thought it was just fog/mist.

Ben Lomond-6387Jolade’s dark dreads became almost white, capturing the moisture from the air.

Our thighs at this point were like jelly and mood a little low from the exertion and not being able to see much.

However…

Ben Lomond-6403

About three quarter’s of the way to the summit, the thick white clouds began to dissipate. A pastel blue sky began to appear the saturation intensified. The light becoming so bright Jolade could not fully open his eyes. It was just like when you wake up first thing in the morning light, but he soon adjusted.

We all kept on walking, with the tones of our voices lifting, bigger smiles and a new energy.

Ben Lomond-6425

We realised that we were all just above the low cloud line. Taking photos in all directions.

Ben Lomond-6465

Jolade embracing the mountain fresh air, the view of the clouds beneath him. His legs recovered and standing strong, his mind reflecting on his inner journey.

Ben Lomond-6488

We kept walking in awe. The Scottish mountains poking through the clouds ahead of us.

Ben Lomond-6493

As we turned the corner and looked up, We could see Jim sitting at the summit, taking in the views in the background and the large Black Raven just in front of him.

Ben Lomond-6496

This was Jim’s view…

Ben Lomond-6523

When Jolade and I arrived Jim had our lunch all prepared, spicy pasta and a vista to die for.

Ben Lomond-6538

Ben Lomond-6541

Looking north and seeing such mountains as Ben Vorlich and Ben Nevis poking through the clouds.

Ben Lomond-154623

Jim at the edge of a large drop, the sense of scale almost over whelming.

Ben Lomond-154848

Jolade proud yet humbled by over coming his challenge.
