Scotway House / Henderson Shipyard

Built in 1885 Scotway house in Glasgow, was originally the drawing offices of DW Henderson Shipbuilder’s.

On the 20th May 2016 it was set on fire. This breaks my heart to see yet another listed building in Glasgow being set on fire deliberately.

I was fortunate that back in 2010 the back door was open. and I went inside to document this historical gem of building, as I knew one say it would be consumed in flames in the future, as many a listed building in Glasgow that are left to rot, always do.

The dookits up in the Attic/loft

A beautiful old can of McEwan’s Export. I never took anything from inside this building, but left it as is, for the next explorer to enjoy.

I actually sat on the roof for a bit, embracing the Glasgow Clydeside skyline.

Up in the attic / loft there were superb wee paper cut outs glued to the walls, of a golden age that had past.

The sadness of anything metal, or of value had been stripped. You can see the detail of one of the Iron bannisters at the top of the page.

Despite the French styled building, designed by Bruce and Hay Architects being is awful condition even back in 2010. The light in some parts was gorgeous, and absent in other parts.
