In this post I may draw your eye to my photography, but really I would like to shed the spotlight, purely on Scott Houston. I have been very lucky to be hired and work in various collaborations with Scott. He is one of those once in a lifetime people you meet.
Scott is a Movement Artist. With the background disciplines of Gymnastics, Acrobatics, Parkour, Martial Arts and Stunts have enabled Scott to be in total control of his body in any given space and time. Lately Scott has been adding to his skills with physical theatre and ballet. And this fusion of forms has enabled Scott to evolve and develop his own unique style.
Through hard training and paying close attention to his nutrition, Scott is in the best shape of his life; body and mind.

Paris

This week I returned to my photographic roots to the photogenic City of Paris, where I have spent the last week capturing some Paris spirit.
I was looking at my old film negatives from Paris 2002, and comparing them to the type of photos I have taken this week. It is refreshing to see an improvement on all aspects of my photography, such as lighting, better composition, creativity and being more daring in the street photography side.
My initial Street Photography started in Paris back in 2008, so it was good to shoot some street again there, as well as the touristy photos. When packing my camera gear, I decided to only take 1 camera and 2 lenses (35mm F1.4 & 17-40mm L F4), to keep it light and simple. My favourite lens that I am using at the moment is the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM on my full frame camera.
Below are some of the photographs I captured and I will be sending off to the lab to be printed today, as I am a strong advocate of printing your photos and not having them just stored up on a disc or on chip.

Red Road

The high rise housing named the Red Road in Glasgow UK.
Once a vision of the future in the 1960′s, now these towers are condemned to the past. They once were the highest residential flats in Europe and now are presently being stripped and demolished.
So far they are on year three out of five in the demolishing process, because of the asbestos and valuable steel used in their construction.
These unusual flats where constructed in 1964-1969 from a steel frame, rather than concrete. And it was calculated that these flats together held a population of 4,700 – 5,000 people.
The 1990′s saw the first Refugees from Kosovo occupy this troubled estate and more recently refugees from Africa, Asia and Europe.
At the time of this post (18th January 2013), all the flats are empty apart from one that is occupied.
One of the monster structures has been torn down the rest of the Red Road Flats are soon to be a distant memory. I thought is was important to document the current Red Road High Rise in Glasgow, as they are slowly diminishing from the Glasgow Skyline.
Despite most of the area being fenced off and dangerous, it does not stop me from photography.
Bluevale and Whitevale High Rise

Making the most of the one day of thick fog we had in Glasgow, taking a risk for the love of photography.
I love thick fog, it adds an atmosphere. I have been waiting a few years to get these shots, as we don’t have fog all that regularly in Glasgow, plus I had to travel to these flats. I find the Whitevale and Bluevale high rise flats intimidating twin structures at the best of times, but thought even more so in the fog. These unique high rise flats are the tallest in Scotland and are due to be pulled down in the future. The area is quite a notorious one, although there are new regeneration plans underway.
I originally took my inspiration from the computer game “Limbo” and wanted work with form and fog light.

Street Portraiture

Just some of my recent Street Portraitures.
Whilst I enjoy shooting street photography, I equally street portraitures, as there are often times when the person is just too interesting. And a more direct connection through communication is needed, to ask a stranger to pose for you, and even a little about themselves.
