Paris

This week I returned to my photographic roots to the photogenic City of Paris, where I have spent the last week capturing some Paris spirit.
I was looking at my old film negatives from Paris 2002, and comparing them to the type of photos I have taken this week. It is refreshing to see an improvement on all aspects of my photography, such as lighting, better composition, creativity and being more daring in the street photography side.
My initial Street Photography started in Paris back in 2008, so it was good to shoot some street again there, as well as the touristy photos. When packing my camera gear, I decided to only take 1 camera and 2 lenses (35mm F1.4 & 17-40mm L F4), to keep it light and simple. My favourite lens that I am using at the moment is the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM on my full frame camera.
Below are some of the photographs I captured and I will be sending off to the lab to be printed today, as I am a strong advocate of printing your photos and not having them just stored up on a disc or on chip.

Sometimes it is good to walk on the line, where light and shadow meet.
Fancy yourself as a street photographer?

If you think you have got what it takes in capturing quality Street Photography, then why not post your photos in the group I run called Global Street Photography (GSP)
All I ask of you is to be really honest with yourself, and ask yourself is your photo memorable, tell a story, really unique or an amazing moment caught on photo…
Photos that are NOT LIKELY to be accepted are snap shots of the backs of peoples heads, far away street shots of random people, photos of easy targets such as street performers and the vulnerable homeless. Despite being photographed on a street are just not acceptable.
I heavily moderate this group and try to accept your best work.
So only memorable and cleverly composed photographs will make the mark. Try and put some thought, feeling, creativity into your Street Photography. So if you still have what it takes, then check out, join, read rules and post.

Blackpool Street Photography

This was another one of those strong gut feeling projects I felt compelled to do. So I drove 3 hours down to Blackpool, England. To just shoot street photography and head back home to Glasgow that evening.
All I can say, it lived up to my expectation and pre-visualizations, and I love Blackpool for the high amount of characters young and mature, just amazing!
Music plays a big part in my pre-visualization, where I listen to music that relates to a given project and I day dream, of scenarios, ideas and possible types of people. And once I arrive, I pop on the earphones and play my MP3 playlist of music to help me get into the zone while capturing photos. I even passed through the Blackpool Ballroom, and shot in my usual street style. It had to be done as I was listening to a lot of the late Reginald Dixon on the iPod.
Below is some of the Blackpool flavour I managed to photograph.
I also decided to capture the sounds as well as the sights.
